Seniors

The Senior members of St. George’s are an active bunch, engaged in a variety of activities at the heart of the ministry and mission of the Church. This work ranges from active support for events such as the annual Parish Bazaar through knitting, pie-making, marmelade-making, etc., through to active membership in a number of Bible study groups.

In addition, St. George’s supports a number of special events for Seniors:

Seniors Communion & Tea

Communion services are held especially for our Senior members on five Wednesday afternoons during the year: at Thanksgiving, Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Easter, and Pentecost. This service is followed by an afternoon tea-time.

Rides to and from Seniors Communion are available — if you are not already on the list, please contact the Church Office (519-438-2994). (If you are available as a volunteer driver to aid in this significant ministry to Seniors, please let us know.)

Sunday Church Bus

To enable attendance at the weekly 10:30 Service of Holy Communion, a Sunday Church bus operates from the Platt’s Lane/Cherryhill and Chelsey Park areas. The route begins at 9:45am at 230 Platts Ln. and then stops at 105, 110, 115, 120, 160, 180, 190, 200 Cherryhill, and 201 Westfield before proceeding to a stop at Chelsey Park. After worship, the bus departs from the church for the return trip at approximately 12:15pm.

The parish offsets the cost of this service, but there is a monthly fee of $15.50 or a yearly fee of $185 to be paid by each passenger as well. A yearly contract is signed by the passengers of the bus agreeing that they will continue to ride the bus to church for the duration of the year (this is necessary to guarantee the funds needed to provide the bus service to all). Those who wish to make only occasional use of the bus service may do so at a cost of $4.00 (round trip).

A volunteer from St. George’s rides the Sunday Church Bus each week in order to help any passengers who require assistance boarding the bus.

Chelsey Park Communion

For the residents of Chelsey Park Retirement Community, St. George’s hosts a service of Holy Communion on the 2nd Thursday of every month, starting at 2:00 pm.
