Proper 25 – Year A (2017)

Exodus 16:2-15; Psalm 105:1-6,37-45; Philippians 1:21-30; Matthew 20:1-16

Rev. Dr. Tim Connor

The parable of the land owner is unsettling: the idea of the same reward for everyone owner clashes with our sense of fairness and justice. Our culture rewards effort and initiative, but the message of the story is that God’s Kingdom operates differently than that, offering the same reward for to the last and least that is offered to the first. Grace is an act of generosity from a God who keeps seeking to welcome us and restore a whole relationship, not a reward for merit.
